Yavanna is like... i tried very hard to be as indulgent as possible in making her. she's pretty, she's hot, she's nice, she's an elven fairy princess, and also she has a silly dramatic dead parents backstory for maximum melodrama. i had a lot of fun with her for my first d&d campaign that i ever got to play, but unfortunately it never carried on. She's probably one of the only characters I have who is actually a good person, and her bad end is so unlikely because she is just Good.

summary

Yavanna is a elven highborn lady, born of an ancient line of high elves that could trace their line back to the Feywild, such that they still retain fey blood in their families. This fey magic coursing through her blood means that Yavanna is prone to whimsy, high emotions, which are worn literally on her sleeve, as her appearance shifts with her moods.

Her story begins in the ransacking of her home in an act of war, where she loses her family, barely escaping with her own life - only at the merciful intervention of an archfey entity who binds themselves as a patron to Yavanna in a fey pact.

Little does Yavanna understand the gravity of this pact, as she learns to wield devastating new eldritch magick and to find the warmongering general who murdered her family and sacked her home.

appearance

Yavanna stands at 5 foot and 2 inches tall, with a slender, curved build. She is fairly attractive by most races' standards, though she has not quite yet grown into the typically "noble" high elven beauty standards, such as her sister.

Yavanna's face is rounder, heart shaped, with wide eyes and defined lips. She wears her long thick hair wavy, often braided in intricate styles and laced with flowers, though loose it grows to her butt. She has long pointed ears, and always seems to look effortlessly blushed.

As an eladrin high elf, Yavanna's appearance shifts depending on her most prominent mood or emotional state; often referred to as "seasons", as there are four of them to match the four seasons. For most of her story, however, her 'default' state would be wintry.

Her hair is ice white, growing hardy mountainous snow flowers, and her eyes are a stark bright shade of teal blue. She likes to dress accordingly to coordinate, and in a pinch, she can cast a quick illusory spell to alter the colours of her clothes to match. You'll never catch her slacking.

She adores fashion and beauty, as most elves do, so she enjoys to wear lush, beautiful dresses or jewellery, and once had an extensive collection of gowns, clothing and jewels.

Her more every day wear is something like a blue dress over white underskirts and a white blouse, cinched at the waist with a leather corset, which she can tuck small items into. She wears a pair of knee-high leather laced boots, elegant but still suited for long days on your feet. Under her skirts, she conceals a leg harness with a dagger or a pouch.

There is a small scar in the palm of her right hand, which she lacks full functionality of to this day. At some point, she gains a long, winding, lightning shaped scar that spans up her leg. As her magick connects her further to her archfey patron, he brands her with their name, as a symbol of her servitude.

personality

Yavanna is very friendly, well spoken, and polite, to most people, a product of her highborn upbringing. She will often keep most people at an arm's length, due to a lack of experience with non-elven peoples, and, y'know, the grief and the trauma.

a caption

However, she has trouble actually maintaining this demeanour, and it's very easy to read her mood, though her face might give away nothing. Her emotions are on display in her appearence and she feels them very strongly, as creatures born of, or descended from the Feywild often do.

That said, it is quite difficult to parse her thoughts on many things, as she often won't voice them, or may speak diplomatically. Yavanna is prone to ruminating on things for a long time. She adores beauty and aesthetics, as many elves do, and she beholds magick as one of her most beloved things in this world, though she cannot actually perform it naturally.

Of course, because she can feel things very strongly, it's almost as if there are multiple "versions" of her in each seasonal state.

Winter: Yavanna is most likely to appear like this, ever since the brutal siege on the Glass Palace. She makes no secret of this event, though she doesn't typically speak of what happened to her during the three days. She's very prone to melancholy, and a very fatalistic outlook, though a small part of her must hold out hope to continue on each day.

Spring: Yavanna in spring is a Dionysan force to be reckoned with. Whimsy, ecstasy, hedonism and pleasure. She is fun to be around in this mood, though she'll not take much seriously, nor will she think twice about following an urge. This is the strongest manifestation of her fey blood in such a cavalier, manic mood.

Summer: This season is a rare occurence for Yavanna, as it takes a lot to stoke her ire. She rarely feels so angry as to trigger a shift, and in recent memory it has only occured twice. In summer, her anxiety and aggression takes over, riddling her with fear and outrage, and her highborn upbringing turns rather ugly; she takes offense quicker, and won't hesitate to correct you cruelly.

Autumn: lmao imagine being happy.

history

"when i was young, i prayed for lightning. my mother said it would come and find me."

- sine from above.

i actually need to rewrite a ton of her actual story to make it individual of what was in the campaign and roleplayed, since that story is dead lol

relationships

Family: Some Elven noble families choose a family name from the Elvish language, while the name that an individual elf will give to most folks upon first meeting is a combination of their Adult Name and an epithet as surname - this is a name often bestowed in childhood, intended to be a blessing, prophecy, or descriptive of the elf as a child.

Yavanna's family was a well-respected noble family, in good standing for her father's carpentry work and her mother's talent at magick. As the younger sister, Yavanna had considerably less expectations of becoming an heiress of the family; that duty fell to Nessa. Yavanna was still expected to marry well to secure a good connection, however.

Nessa Nine-stars [older sister] Approx 200 years old, shoulders heavier than her younger sister, but she wears it well. Nessa was made to become the heiress to the family, and she would have done this admirably well. She adored her younger sister, and they would often go on long walks and hikes through the Gasping Forests together, talking of history told to them by their parents. Nessa might have gone on to do great things for her society. She was killed in front of her younger sister by a figure known as the Archmancer, as opposing forces enacted a siege of their home.

Nienna [mother] Approx. 650 years old. A well known and gifted magus, who became quite withdrawn into herself once the treaties on magic usage were passed. Assumed dead.

Caspian Yronwood [father] Approx. 550 years old. Known for his expertise in carpentry, as he could carve archer’s bows and arrows from wood so light and impossibly sturdy, widely considered an art form among elves for their grace and style. Assumed dead.
