this is a shrine for my cat, cookie! he is my son, my baby, my little crunchy stray adoptee.
cookie was a stray cat previously to his life of luxury. we started seeing him come through our back garden quite a lot (there was a lot of cats in the garden i don't know what was going on). we figured all the others were owned, especially trevor the ginger, they were all more friendlier.
cookie was really skittish and we could not give him any snacks unless he was alone and we gave him lots of space, because he was soo scared of humans and other cats. :(
whereas trev would come in and hangout with us it took so long for cookie to even come into the lean-to (like a shed attached onto the backdoor of the house). we noticed his eyes were really crunchy and boogery, so even if we couldn't keep him, we wanted to take him to a vet to make sure he was okay, but it was really difficult to even touch him let alone catch him.. there were many attempts.
eventually he got so brave and ventured into our house more and more, and we were able to close him in the house (he was REALLY SKITTISH and we didn't wanna scare him too bad), and we built up to keeping him in over night and feeding him proper meals. we were able to try and scan him for a chip and it seemed like he didn't have one, but as he wouldn't stay still, we weren't sure...
at the end of the year, we took him to a vet appointment check up, checked for a chip and he did not have one!! so we got him chipped, an antibiotic for his eyes, and an official diagnosis of "very handsome boy".
cookie is... a very odd cat. everything that someone has told me to be ready for, cookie hasn't done it. i really thought i'd have to toilet train him for a litter box, but he used it immediately with no issues.
he's SILENT!! he almost never meows, and he can't even do it right i think. when he does meow, it's either a squeak or he kinda just goes... "ooOOWWW?" he never hops up on furniture, i think because he can't see it so he doesn't know that there's a world past 3ft high.
while he was originally really skittish about coming near people, now he is such a little baby. he will follow you round the house. he's very polite when he wants to be fed (will just sit in the kitchen and wait politely.) he will ask strangers in the house for pets by headbutting their legs. if he's next to you he wants 24/7 pets. and if you stop how dare you.
actually sometimes he is a bit cheeky about food because my dad used to give him extras off his plate and let him have food while eating in bed, so if cookie can reach your plate he will beg.
he loves cheese a lot. if you open a packet, he knows the sound and will come running for cheese. he also likes crisps. his favourite is hula hoops.
if you look at my pictures of cookie you can see his eyes are not very good. we think it is excess sleep and boogers and maybe allergies, but not sure what yet. we do clean them every day, but also his eyes are just very small for a cat. they do not open much? his eyesight is also not that great, i really think he doesn't know that there's surfaces he can jump on, unless you encourage him a lot to do it, and it still has to be quite low.
because of this, i don't like to let him out, so he is an indoor kitty only. i worry too much about if he will not see cars, or get lost. he seems so much happier indoors as his personality really comes out!
"i lub cookie" - my sister
